Several years ago we searched for an organization that we could partner with in order to support our community. No matter who we asked, everyone recommended contacting CARES of Farmington Hills. Following through with that advice produced an incredibly meaningful community partnership that continues on today.
CARES is a non-profit operating in our local community. In the time that we’ve worked with them, CARES has experienced 88% growth, and is able to reach out to that many more families. It is also the largest child center providing WIC – The Special Supplemental Nutrition Program for Women, Infants, and Children – in our area.
More from CARES from their site:
Community. Action. Resources. Empowerment. Services.
The mission of C.A.R.E.S. is to offer comprehensive support services for individuals and their families in and around the Farmington Hills area that are in need or have limited access to everyday necessities due to insufficient financial resources or family instability. C.A.R.E.S. will offer needed support in the areas of food, clothing, job education and training as well as access to other community and county support services – all on one campus.
Detroit Dawoodi Bohra & CARES
Anjuman e Najmi, and Detroit Dawoodi Bohras, have continuously supported CARES on a monthly basis. As a non-profit serving the underserved, CARES cares for families who often lack the essentials to support good health and nutrition. Every month, we collaborate with CARES to understand their needs and the needs of those that they serve, and turn that into actionable support.
What’s remarkable about CARES is that, as they grow, they adapt and re-invent their processes to better serve their community, and to be better stewards of their resources. This is in line with the mission of organizations like the Dana Committee, FMB, and Madrasah Kalimiyah, in their efforts to reduce waste and provide the maximum benefit to those they serve. It is in that combined mission that we thought to conduct a special event.
In honor of World Food Day, and in collaboration with the local Dana Committee, Faiz ul-Mawaid il-Burhaniyah (FMB), and Madrasah Kalimiyah Detroit, the Dawoodi Bohra congregation at Masjid al-Burhani held a food drive to show support for CARES.
For the food drive, donations of stuffing were collected to deliver to CARES, who, in turn, would provide families with support this Thanksgiving. This event was simply one more milestone a long and humble journey with CARES to serve the people of our community, and we hope to continue for many years to come.
