Giving Back on Independence Day
India marked its 73rd Independence Day on 15th August 2019 with much enthusiasm and fervour. Various events and gatherings were organised across the country to celebrate the spirit of freedom. The Dawoodi Bohra community also marked this important day by partnering with charitable organisations to feed the hungry and help those in need.
Here are some of the programs undertaken by the community’s philanthropic initiative – Project Rise – on Independence Day to spread joy and happiness among its fellow citizens
Freedom from Malnutrition – Roha & Govandi, Maharashtra
As part of its sustained nutrition program, members of the Dawoodi Bohra community in partnership with the Association for Nutrition and Development Action (ANNADA) engaged with children and mothers in Govandi and Roha near Mumbai to work towards freedom from malnutrition for our children.
In addition to a variety of fun filled activities, informative videos were shown highlighting the importance of breastfeeding, complementary feeding and the need for adequate nutrition during childhood. An interactive session was also conducted by volunteers from ASHA Foundation to create awareness about nutrition and highlight best hygiene practices for the overall well being of both mothers and children. The celebration was concluded with the distribution of micronutrient fortified laddus, fruits and nutritious snacks to all participants.
